They are the leading provision and stores management partner to the global shipping community serving almost 2,000 ships in over 750 ports in over 120 countries around the world.

Detailed Job Description

As Head of Operations, you will become part of a dynamic team, which is jointly responsible and works closely together to ensure deliveries to customer vessels are delivered at the best value and highest level of satisfaction to the vessels in our clients care. The operations team focus on purchasing provisions, bond and technical stores on behalf of Vessel Owners and Vessel Management Companies who have outsourced this function to Garrets International.

Reporting directly to the COO, you will have daily contact with ships and suppliers from all over the globe with one of your primary tasks being your ability to act as an intermediary, while at the same time taking into account the particular needs of the customers concerned.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

Leading the team of Vessel Account team based in our UK HQ in Romford.
Setting appropriate KPI's for vessel account management team (with a key focus on vessel budget management and vessel satisfaction), to monitor performance, and initiate corrective actions as appropriate.
Monitoring actual vessel, fleet & client feeding rates versus budget rates and developing action plans to reduce any losses which are occurring due to over-consumption on board.
Supporting the COO in the development of a process & structural framework that will support the increased scalability of the business.
Supporting the COO in the development and implementation of strategic initiatives with an emphasis on continuous improvement including system improvements to enhance overall planning performance and reporting.
Working in close partnership with the Head of Operations DK, to devise, document and implement aligned processes and activities across the two operational teams.
Collaborating with and supporting other departments with a view to continuous improvement across Garrets International.

Candidate's Profile

The preferred candidate for the Head of Operations role will have operated in the Shipping industry previously and ideally in a role where they are familiar with the challenges of the maritime industry.

Based within a commuting distance of Romford, you will be required to demonstrate the following experience:

A track record of performing in operational roles within the shipping industry. A transferable background could include 3PL/4PL commercial logistics management with exposure to the contract catering market.
Have experience of operating in a multi-cultural and International logistics environment.
Senior leadership experience and an ability to manage effectively within a change environment.
You will be ambitious, able to engage with stakeholders across all levels seamlessly and be able to demonstrate that you are a team player.
An ability to work independently and understand the importance of meeting deadlines.
Can maintain an overview and prioritise effectively, even when working under pressure.
Comfortable working at both a strategic and a tactical level.
