A new and exciting opportunity has arisen within Doncaster for somebody who is looking to pursue a career in purchasing. I am looking for a certain individual who already has a basic understanding of purchasing processes, and is looking to further develop their skill-set.

Client Details

The client I am representing are one of the leading house builders within the South Yorkshire and East Midlands regions, and after winning a number of large contracts they have created a brand new position to support their procurement department.


As the Assistant Buyer you will have the following responsibilities:
  • Ability to schedule materials from drawings and specifications
  • Raising thorough material order enquires for tender of material packages.
  • Collate quotes, analyse & negotiate with suppliers
  • Producing and issuing schedule purchase orders
  • Inputting orders and schedules onto purchase order software system
  • Raising & issuing repeat orders
  • Raising & issuing prelim, secondary and call off orders on new contracts
  • Updating and issuing orders following design changes
  • Updating and issuing orders with price changes
  • Establish excellent working relationships with Strata Supply Chain
  • Active participation in team meetings (including site visits) and feedback sessions, in conjunction with other Procurement personnel
  • Prepare enquiries for year Term Agreements, collate quotes, analyse, negotiate and appoint suppliers for various materials
  • Support the Supply Chain Manager, Purchasing Manager & Buyer within the team
  • Maintain Central Document File
  • Maintain Central house type file
  • Ensure that the administration of purchase orders is optimised at all times.
  • Provide purchasing support to other functions within the business.


The successful candidate for the Assistant Buyer role will ideally have the following key skills and qualities:
  • Commitment to quality in all aspects of service delivery
  • Previous purchasing experience within a relevant industry
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimum guidance, confidence in taking the initiative, making decisions and consult as appropriate
  • Task orientated
  • Take ownership and responsibility
  • Have an engaged and positive attitude
  • Forge relationships and form effective communication with the supply chain and the wider Strata team
  • Deadline focused
    • Achieve Team objectives
    • Computer literate / Microsoft Office
    • Highly numerate with efficient administration skills
