The Category Manager will be responsible for a range of expenditure categories and for achieving value for money for goods and services within the allocated category.

You will be responsible for managing relationships with senior managers, internal stakeholders and key suppliers. You will also manage contracts for common goods and services across the organisation and work with contract to manage supplier performance.

The focus of Category Management will be to lead the development and implementation of procurement plans and strategies for key areas of non-pay expenditure maximising value for money through sustainable, efficient and effective practices including the management of risks and compliance

As a Category Manager your main duties will include: 
  • Directly supporting the Head of Procurement in delivering a category management approach for key areas of commodity expenditure; 
  • Managing and championing a number of procurement categories; undertaking category analysis (spend, supplier, supply and organisation analysis) and developing and implementing category strategies;
  • Leading Category Working Groups to develop proposals for category strategies and plans for a 3 year period for categories; 
  • Mentoring and developing colleagues and stakeholders to firmly embed the discipline of category management for key areas of spend;
  • Managing e-Tendering/e-Auction exercises, including developing the customer’s requirement, identifying the best procurement route, drafting tender documentation, tender evaluation and clarification, and contract award;
  • Owning the commercial relationship with strategic and/or significant suppliers, working with Satellite Purchasing Managers and key stakeholders: developing joint plans with suppliers, addressing performance improvement against SLAs, cost reduction and development of capability, planning and leading regular reviews, driving progress against plans and improving performance

This role will be based in Leeds and pays an annual salary of £40,000 - £48,000 dependant on experience.
