As a Category Manager you will be responsible for developing and implementing complex category plans. Using both strategic sourcing methodology and supplier/stakeholder management principles to deliver savings and service improvements in line with Category Plans.

Michael Page Indirect Procurement are delighted to be working with Major League Retailer to find a Category Manager to join their team.


As a Category Manager for this Blue Chip Retailer you will be responsible for the following;

  • Developing and implementing complex Commodity Plans that reflect the Category Plan.

  • To communicate and influence stakeholders to Departmental Director level to gain commitment to the Commodity Plan.

  • To direct and lead project teams to deliver Commodity Plans using basic project management tools.

  • To use stakeholder and supplier networks, identify continuous improvement and step-change opportunities to product and service specifications.

  • With the frameworks set, independently agree all business as usual activity such as supplier selection, supplier set-up, contract terms, negotiation strategies and business improvement plans.

  • Working with stakeholders, identify and quantify trade offs between cost, quality and service and develop alternative options.

  • Independently negotiate favourable contract terms in line with the organisations Contracting Policy.

  • Operate as part of the Category Team and shape the development of Category Plans.


The successful candidates must have the following capabilities;

  • Minimum of 3 year's experience of procurement buying positions and proven track record of delivering savings and service targets.

  • Ability to work across multiple categories.

  • Ability to manage cross functional project teams.

  • Robust commercial awareness and analytical thinking skills.

  • Demonstrated delivery through strategic sourcing principles.

  • Ability to build strong stakeholder relationships to Departmental Director level.

  • Strong verbal and written influencing skills up to Departmental Director level.

  • Ability to manage 3rd Parties in line with Supplier Relationship Management Programme.

  • Sound knowledge of law and contracts.

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise to meet targets.
