The Category Manager will provide strategic direction in the category for which they are responsible as part of the management team delivering the Procurement agenda. They will provide support to the vision to transform the procurement of goods and services within the category for the commercial benefit of the organisation.

The Category Manager will be responsible for the sourcing and strategic management of contracts, along with managing the full OJEU tender process.

  • Develop and implement a strategic sourcing approach for the category and use appropriate techniques to ensure value for money

  • Evidence best procurement practice

  • Research, assess and prioritise stakeholder requirements and risk assured solutions

  • Advise internal stakeholders on applicable legislation

  • Work in partnership with partners of the organisation to deliver effective sourcing solutions which meet all cost, quality and performance requirements.

  • Provide proactive management of key stakeholders to ensure that the procurement strategy is closely aligned to objectives, key operational requirements and priorities.

  • Undertake category and supplier industry benchmarking.

  • Monitor and report supplier performance

  • Execute sourcing plans in line with the agreed strategy to identify and select the right suppliers.


The successful candidate will:

  • Experience leading procurement categories in implementation of sourcing strategies across a variety of spend areas

  • Experience of managing all aspects of high value category management, and delivery of quantifiable procurement efficiencies

  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate, construct and manage diverse and complex procurement contracts of significant value

  • Proven strategic contract management for high risk contracts, with the ability to demonstrate contract practice & procedures.

  • A proven track record of the whole life cycle procurement, contract & relationship management.

  • Senior stakeholder management experience

  • You will be ideally MCIPS qualified and educated to degree level.

Job Offer

The successful candidate will receive a competitive basic salary of up to £44,500 plus an excellent benefits package.
