Vacancy Overview

The position will have a particular focus on our ‘Property’ area and the associated portfolio of contracts / suppliers that support our operations across the UK. This includes for example the suppliers of Estates and Land Management Services, the suppliers that support of property investment programme (Capital Works), and other ancillary services to ensure the smooth operation of our company properties. Note the role does not include responsibility for facilities management and catering contracts.

The successful candidate will work with EDF Energy Property Services stakeholders to ensure that EDF Energy Opex and Capex investment plans (for non-nuclear properties) are delivered safely, to standard and to budget.

It is anticipated that the successful post holder will have an opportunity to line manage a more junior member of the team, so leadership experience would be seen a beneficial.    

This position will work with key stakeholders and the Supply Chain Manager to support the Business to develop and manage a suite of contracts to support the ambitions of the Business and EDF Energy.

This includes identifying a range of third party services required to support the business plans, developing supply chain strategies, gaining Supply Chain Manager and Business Stakeholders “Buy in” and timely delivery of a portfolio of contracts to support the agreed supply chain strategy.

It is expected that the Senior Supply Chain Specialist will act as a point of reference for the business and suppliers and is expected to coach and mentor a small team of Supply Chain specialists, depending on business area, where required.

The base site location for the role is either Barnwood (Gloucester) or Interchange (Croydon)

Nature and Scope

The post holder will report to the Supply Chain Manager, an element of accountability is also toward Shared Goods and Services stakeholders in deploying a professional and value driven end to end supply chain approach.

The purpose of the Supply Chain Department is to maximise value for EDF Energy through the professional supply chain of third party goods and services. In order to maximize overall synergy benefits for EDF Energy this position will work closely with other Supply Chain colleagues within the company to ensure consistency and continuous improvement through competency development, learning opportunities and consistency of approach.

Opportunities to utilise EDF Group synergies will be taken where appropriate which will require a close working relationship with EDF Group Procurement.

A high degree of flexibility will be required in the role in order to support Business stakeholders; there will be travel to other EDF Energy supplier and EDF SA locations.

Principal Accountabilities

Responsible for the end to end supply chain process; the post holder will;

  • Identify requirements and develop the Supply Chain Strategy for the area of the business under your purview, in conjunction with the business strategy, taking full account of other activities within the Supply Chain portfolio and drive the supply chain strategy to conclusion in a timely and professional manner;
  • Ensure that the business support teams such as Legal and other stakeholders are involved and contributing to the delivery of the portfolio and manage the workflow to ensure that the acquire Goods and Services process is carried out in a timely manner to meet the business expectations;
  • Ensure that all supply chain is carried out in an ethical and controlled manner in line with Supply Chain policy and procedures;
  • Negotiate and obtain agreement to the optimum supply chain strategy for the business, including identifying and leveraging group supply chain synergies where practical;
  • Generate and record savings for the company by effective supply chain management;
  • Develop a supplier base that is appropriate to the size and complexity of the organisation, and mitigates the supplier risk in a suitable manner;
  • Ensure that third party suppliers and contractors both understand and work in alignment with our health, safety, environment and quality practices and standards;
  • Ensure that suppliers deliver the expected goods and services to the required quality in a timely manner and at the agreed costs. Manage exceptions effectively and ensure mitigating actions are put in place and followed;
  • Ensure that our risks are understood and mitigated to an agreed level through effective contracts and development of appropriate professional relationships with our key suppliers and contractors;
  • Assist with the ongoing review of Supply Chain practices and procedures and ad hoc project work

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience

The post holder will be able to evidence and demostrate the following;

  • Knowledge and experience of JCT contracts
  • Member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (MCIPS) or a student member working towards the professional qualification
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with experience and ability in working with Senior Management, advising at all levels as required.
  • Demonstrated experience in the award and development of contracts and supply chain strategies for complex high value projects.
  • Strong understanding of contract and commercial law and sound understanding of contractual terms and conditions.
  • Experience in Bid Process Management including supplier sourcing, documentation, evaluation and selection and managing the tendering and award of contracts for high value multidiscipline contracts.
  • Excellent negotiation skills, with experience in negotiating high value and complex multidiscipline contracts.
  • High degree of commercial acumen, being able to understand complex commercial issues, and drive complex commercial negotiations to conclusion.
  • Proven experience working with cross functional teams.
  • Project planning skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • French speaker preferred
