My client, a leading manufacturer in Birmingham, are seeking an experienced General Manager to run their large Warehouse site.

The ideal candidate will have 5 yrs + general management experience within a fast paced warehouse operation.

Key responsibilities:
  • Manage a large warehouse operation of; 2 x operations managers, shift managers, and c200 floor staff
  • Have transport and freight/container experience

  • To ensure that customer expectations are met and/or exceeded within the confines of company guidelines.
  • Quarterly presentations to customer senior management relative to our scorecard and initiatives.
  • Participate in customer invited meetings to support Customer strategic objectives
  • Communicate with the customer and demonstrate initiatives supporting continuous improvement
  • Meet company objectives with respect to Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Morale and Environment
  • Quarterly presentations to senior management
  • Establish 5 year / contract life business plan, annual budgets and ensure targets are met
  • Adopt continuous improvement within the workplace
  • Plan and execute the concepts of lean manufacturing
  • Matters relating to finances that will have a negative impact on the sites performance
  • Prioritise activities associated with the elimination of waste in all aspects of our operations
  • Improve employee relations through participation of personnel from the shop floor and in-still behavioural discipline
  • Work with union personnel to improve day to day operations while limiting the emotional impact on the workforce
  • Adopt union representatives as part of the business to maximise their contribution to achieve overall objectives
  • Work with the business development and account management group to identify business opportunities within the capabilities of the plant and local area
  • Work with other suppliers and industry focus groups in the local community to learn from their experiences and adapt accordingly.


Key skills required:
    • 5 yrs warehouse management experience
    • Experience within either a manufacturing business (warehouse) or 3PL
    • Experience having implemented LEAN techniques and CI initiatives
    • Overseen large teams over 200
    • Experience liaising with third party transport and freight carriers
    • Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills

    • Must adjust work schedule as determined by the demands of the business, a certain flexibility is mandatory

    • Must be able to communicate to large numbers of employees effectively.

    • Must be able to prepare complex presentations and present to leadership and customers.

    • Be open, candid and truthful. Never pursue a political agenda but simply explore best solutions. Integrity and respect for individuals are part of a candid culture.

    • Proactively seek solutions and make decisions;

  • Travel involved in the job.

Job Offer

Salary on offer is between £62,000 and £65,000 + Car, Bonus and private health care
