The objective of the Supplier Management & Procurement department is to deliver best value and cost savings in all Aviation contracts. As Head of Ground Ops & Airport Procurement you are responsible for the long-term direction and the service-delivery of procurement activities for Ground Ops operational department and Airports. You develop and leverage an excellent network & cooperation with internal & external stakeholders and will stay current on economic/business/market developments. You have authority to make decisions concerning operational activity of your team.

  • Develop and manage a reliable, structured, effective and knowledgeable competence centre within SM&P for Ground Operations procurement activities
  • Act as business partner towards Ground Operations department and towards other TUI organisations such as TUI Cruises, TUI Hotels, Destination Services, etc.
  • In cooperation with the SM&P Director, translate the TUI Aviation (board) strategy and objectives into specific strategy and innovation projects for your team
  • Ensure that your team works in accordance with the defined strategy and supports innovation

What You Will Be Doing

  • Prepare a strategic vision/plan for ground handling and airports procurement based on market intelligence, operational business intelligence reports and risks
  • Build and maintain subject matter knowledge within the field of ground handling and airports
  • Obtain market intelligence by analysing market developments - new trends, supplier entry/exists, competitor information etc.
  • Look for and report innovative business solutions
  • Monitor and report opportunities for savings
  • Review information on quality and performance of suppliers, based on quality reports and audits and business intelligence analysis reports
  • Stay current on business/market/supplier developments through relevant reading, networking, meetings or attending conferences/workshops
  • Manage procurement projects for high-value/high-risk ground handling and airports contracts, and support/ review other ground handling and airports related procurement projects
  • Lead procurement process in co-operation with Ground Operations department and other stakeholders
  • Critically evaluate all procurement requests
  • Challenge internal customers and suppliers to provide innovative solutions
  • Validate that the procurement process, as described in SM&P procedures manual, is followed correctly.
  • Manage contracts through their life-cycle, following the SM&P process and procedures manual
  • Ensure excellent commercial and administrative contract management service-delivery
  • Provide guidance to stakeholders on contractual matters
  • Support Ground Operations department and other stakeholders in ongoing supplier management of contracts
  • Coordinate warranty claims and disputes between Ground Operations department and other stakeholders and suppliers and obtain compensation, if contractual terms & conditions are not fulfilled
  • Review overall supplier performance and contract savings
  • Review risk analysis and manage increasing risk level, if needed
  • Analyse operational risks in the field of ground handling and airports based on market intelligence, business intelligence analysis reports and financial risk reports. Report if risk level changes/increases, propose and decide about further actions.
  • Develop and manage supplier relationships
  • Familiarize and engage with new suppliers
  • Manage and maintain relationships with existing suppliers
  • Manage supplier performance by reviewing supplier performance reports in conjunction with stakeholders and by organizing regular service/performance review meetings with suppliers and business owners
  • Create and maintain an activity forecast for the Ground Handling, Airport procurement team
  • Create and update an activity forecast regularly for ground handling and airports procurement activities
  • Discuss/align resource planning and activity priorities with other SM&P head-of’s and SM&P Director
  • Set and monitor budget and savings together with the Manager of Procurement Economics
  • Manage the Ground Handling and Airport procurement team
  • Support, develop and coach team members
  • Set professional standards to which the team are judged by and review the team standards
  • Be accountable for the performance and behaviour of the team
  • Ensure you and your team are acting according to TUI values and are compliant with relevant procurement policies. In cases of non compliance you must report this to person of trust.

What We Are Looking For

  • Have at least a graduate degree, CIPS qualification or equivalent by experience. A Master degree is desired but not essential
  • Be business/commercially oriented
  • Have a good knowledge of English, knowledge of other languages is desired but not essential
  • Have experience in an airline with ground handling or airports
  • Be able to have a short-term focus while maintaining a strategic eye on the long-term view
  • Have a commercial mind set, continually evaluating the costs and benefits of a decision
  • Have good project and team management skills and experience
  • Have extensive understanding of contractual legal terms & conditions
  • Have good communication and reporting skills
  • Have good negotiation, influencing and persuading skills
  • Able to engage at all levels within the business
  • Understand cultural differences, able to manage the complexity and ambiguity resulting from multiple stakeholders of differing sizes and based in different countries
  • Able to work, always innovating, in a rapidly changing environment, prioritizing accordingly
  • Able to easily develop a strong network of contacts throughout the business and industry, gaining the support and commitment of key players to key projects
  • Be self-motivated to get things done, take initiative and work result-oriented
  • Able to challenge assumptions and to think out of the box
  • Experience with procurement is an asset
  • Able to work according TUI values and procurement policies
