Your new company
South, Central & West CSU (SCW) is one of the largest Commissioning Support Units in the country, and to support their clients they must be innovative and flexible, open to following their customer’s vision and looking at things in a new way. They collaborate with customers and partners across health and social care systems to manage, analyse, and improve performance and enable their customers to achieve the best possible outcomes for their service users. Major clients of SCW include a number of Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs). CCGs hold contracts with a wide range of different organisations who provide care to the local population, including NHS England, local authorities, foundation trusts, social enterprises, and other health related organisations.. You will therefore be working with a diverse range of stakeholders, continually adapting your approach and learning about how to provide the best service to distinct customers.

Your new role
Your next role is an exciting opportunity to be a major influence as the new Head of Procurement and make a difference within SCW. This is a senior figure within the organisation and you will be responsible for overall management and strategic direction of the indirect (non-clinical) procurement department which includes such categories as consultancy services and IT as well as being responsible for the Procurement element of a Purchase-to-Pay system. The department consists of two teams, strategic and tactical procurement. There are currently 17 WTE posts. In a fast paced, competitive environment you will provide strategic procurement advice and support to SCW and contribute to its corporate reporting requirements. You will also provide strategic procurement advice to both SCW and its CCG customers whilst always looking for new and innovative ways to achieve great value for money. This could involve you working with senior stakeholders up to board level from an internal / external audience. You will be responsible for indirect procurement policy and processes, ensuring they are embedded throughout SCW and providing training to SCW customers regarding their policies and processes. This will include facilitating discussions and advising colleagues as to how best practice is adopted in the development of future processes, documenting those processes as they are agreed and overseeing their delivery.

What you'll need to succeed
This is a fast paced, competitive role which will require a driven and commercially astute candidate who has a passion for staff management and a previous history of improving procurement departments as SCW has a clear direction of wanting to improve its procurement department by looking at a new way of working with customers and its internal team. The role will require you to present to and influence senior level stakeholders (Board level) internally and externally so you will need to have been successful working on high profile, complex contracts and projects. This will include having a background in managing a large team through challenging situations and being able to lead from the front with how to effectively bring in value for money whilst following compliance and process. Due to the nature of this role knowledge of EU procurement regulations is essential but SCW are open to candidates who have either a private or public sector background. It is also important that you are at either Degree level or have successfully completed your MCIPS qualification. In person you will have gravitas, be professional and articulate with the ability to lead from the front with high standards and a desire to succeed.

What you'll get in return
SCW provides a strong and comprehensive benefits package, which will support your salary and allow you to maintain a genuine work-life balance.
The full package includes:
  • Defined benefits NHS pension scheme
  • generous annual leave allowance
  • training & career development policy
  • generous paternity, adoption and maternity pay
  • Prince 2 sponsorship / CIPS development
  • childcare vouchers
  • occupational health service
  • Access to NHS vehicle leasing scheme
