Reporting to the Purchasing Director, this is a unique opportunity to join the McLaren Automotive Purchasing team and to be part of an automotive environment undergoing a transformation journey due to the rapid growth in response to its critically acclaimed global products and best-in-class performance.

To strengthen the team in the transformation we are now looking for a Head of Purchasing for several commodities who will lead, drive and manage the performance of the teams consisting of approx. 25 people with 3-4 direct reporting Purchasing Managers in the assigned area/commodity. You will manage key supplier relationships and promote a strong cross functional collaboration internally together with execution of commodity strategies and leveraging other opportunities. You will also be a member of the McLaren Automotive Purchasing Leadership Team and contribute actively to the development of the whole Purchasing organization in the transformation and you will represent Purchasing in several cross-functional decisions bodies and validate sourcing cases to be presented to the sourcing decision body.

Additional main responsibilities and accountabilities:

Accountability for cost and budget management for multi-million pounds direct-spend within your scope.
Work cross-functionally with all departments to drive quality principles and commercial acumen into every aspect of our business.
Establish relationships and long-term development plans with suppliers based upon common goals and objectives.
Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement throughout the business.
Support and question the detailed development and intelligent commodity strategies that align with the organisation’s commercial and technology roadmaps as well as those of our key development partners.
Assist in the co-ordination and maintain elements of control within the activities of McLaren’s Purchasing team to ensure McLaren’s continued customer commitment of being the bench mark for customer satisfaction for both internal and external customers/stakeholders.
Setting of clear objectives and monitor performance of your teams.
Ensure supplier requirements and concerns are fully understood and ensure these are fed back during the appropriate stages to the appropriate stakeholders.
Develop training and development plans for your teams.
Develop detailed and intelligent commodity/category strategies that align with the organisation’s commercial and technology roadmaps as well as those of our key development partners.
Develop the teams’ capabilities to drive sound judgement in styling, engineering, quality and logistic environments.


Qualifications and key skills:

Educated to degree level or equivalent
Excellent motivational, coaching and leadership skills and capability to lead and influence within a dynamic organisation
Excellent presentational skills and communication skills, both written and oral.
Results driven and the ability to deliver against aggressive targets to achieve the overall business objectives.
Able to act under pressure with calmness, clarity of thought and decisive authority.
Enthusiastic and with a high level of self-motivation to overcome obstacles
Excellent organisational skills, deadline adherence and exceptional attention to accuracy and detail.
Determination to drive the business forward to ‘Best in Class’ performance standards.
Capable of lateral thinking and can make structured and objective decisions.
Being able to understand complex and abstract concepts (legal, technical and/or commercial) and being able to present the information in an informative and simplified manner; such that key decisions can be made quickly and objectively.
Ability to provide leadership and guidance in complex commercial and contractual relationships with a good understanding of legal contracts.
Ability to step into negotiations and support the teams in the development of negotiation strategies and tactics for large and complex projects.
Proven supply chain management and procurement experience, dealing with both small and large value organisations.
Good working knowledge of manufacturing and quality processes and understand industry practices
Experience of launch management / new model integration is a plus.
Demonstrable commercial success within an automotive and/or manufacturing environment is desired, but we are willing to consider all industries with the right competencies gained.
