Summary:

The UK is preparing for its largest ever investment in the new civil nuclear power stations with a total planned investment of around £60 billion. The success of the Nuclear AMRC is of ever increasing importance as events over the last two years have contributed to the rising cost of potential new-build at civil nuclear sites in the UK and uncertainty about foreign investment.

The Supply chain development offering from Nuclear AMRC continues to grow and is now of equal strategic and operational importance to the Manufacturing Innovation offering. The post holder would oversee the three main areas of focus within Nuclear AMRCs supply chain offering:

Supply chain development - Fit For Nuclear (F4N) is a unique service to help UK manufacturing companies get ready to bid for work in the civil nuclear supply chain. F4N lets companies measure their operations against the standards required to supply the nuclear industry – in new build, operations and decommissioning – and take the necessary steps to close any gaps. This programme is the flagship offering and the largest of a suite of supply chain programmes offered by Nuclear AMRC.

Equipment qualification - Equipment qualification (EQ) is a fundamental requirement of the UK’s approach to safety assessment for nuclear facilities. Nuclear reactor technology vendors and energy utility developers must demonstrate to regulators that any safety-related and safety-critical equipment. Nuclear AMRC have commissioned a report due in October 2017 which is intended to help shape UK policy on EQ requirements for nuclear new build projects, and reduce the risk of EQ-related delays.

Modules and modularisation - Many of the nuclear new build programmes planned for the UK aspire to be modular build in nature and there is appetite for some waste management systems to also be modular. It is therefore important that Nuclear AMRC can adequately inform the UK supply chain to he them win work on these programmes.

In order to provide technical leadership and guidance to the team it is imperative that the resource has an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the nuclear industry and direct experience of the challenges and opportunities facing manufacturing businesses in the nuclear supply chain.

The role will require clear and evidenced demonstration of nuclear market and industry understanding (waste management and decommissioning, existing generation, new build, new technology and defence), supported by a demonstrable pre-existing network of nuclear contacts, across a wide cross-section of nuclear subject matters.

This job will require UK travel which may include overnight stays. The post holder will have proven experience in working within the civil nuclear industry and its manufacturing supply chain. Candidates with an Honours degree in a relevant engineering discipline would be desirable. We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience
