Indirect Buyer required for large employer based near Newport.


The Indirect Buyer will report to the Senior Buyer, and will support and/or manage sourcing events both in line with the annual procurement plan and ad-hoc sourcing requirements. You will get involved with and lead non-strategic procurement initiatives in order to improve the overall performance of the procurement function. You will also support the contract management process that will enable the business to maximise the value obtained from its supplier relationships. You will also support day to day procurement and contract management issues, being recognised as a key point of contact for resolution of supplier performance issues where appropriate, and new procurement initiatives on designated contracts.

Key responsibilities will include supporting the Senior Buyers and/or leading sourcing events. This will include, but not be limited to:
  • Data collection and preparation
  • Supply market analysis and benchmarking
  • Stakeholder identification and management
  • Contribute and Lead Stakeholder Engagement sessions
  • Create detailed specifications relating to Sourcing activity
  • Creation of ITTs and RFQs
  • Post tender analysis and recommendations
  • Contribute and Lead Supplier Negotiations
  • Development of award recommendations
  • Drafting Contract Award Papers
  • Implementing new Suppliers/Processes following Contract Awards.
  • Act as the first point of contact for both suppliers and business stakeholders to help resolve sourcing and contract queries.
  • Act as the key point of contact to stakeholders to assist in resolution of procurement systems/initiative queries e.g. provide expert guidance/training to SRM users.
  • Ensuring ongoing business stakeholder compliance with procurement policy, procedures and processes and assisting in the development and implementation of any new policy, procedures and processes.
  • Ensuring efficient and accurate administration and maintenance of records, files and associated systems (including Vendor Master and Framework Order creation). Maintaining appropriate electronic and hard copy document records of contracts and related contractual documentation.

You will achieve the above whilst maintaining an understanding of:
  • Appropriate procurement legislation
  • Procurement best practice
  • Contract terms and conditions
  • Service Level Agreements and Key Performance Indicators
  • Health, Safety and Environmental legislation

You will be/have:
  • A minimum of 4 years relevant procurement experience and/or MCIPS qualification with some practical experience
  • Strong Commercial awareness and understanding of contract terms.
  • Good Stakeholder Management skills
  • A focused self-starter who takes ownership and responsibility for delivering against performance objectives
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively at all levels within the business. Good written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and organisational skills
  • Ability to work both under own initiative and as part of a team
  • Ability to prioritise own workload and multi-task
  • Good working knowledge of E-Procurement and Microsoft Office packages
  • Ability to operate procurement information systems and data manipulation, ideally with experience of using major ERP applications (SAP R/3, SAP SRM etc)
  • An energetic, flexible, commercially aware and customer focused individual
  • Tact and diplomacy, ability to make decisions and take calculated risks
