1st Executive are retained by a leading FTSE 250 Energy organisation who are looking for an experienced Procurement leader to take ownership of a number of cross-functional sourcing needs across their business. Must have experience as a standalone, strategic procurement lead across multiple categories, including FM, Services and a previous track record in the energy/utilities industry.

Job Role:

This role will lead the sourcing of a range of sourcing needs spanning metering related services, and a range of operational business services including FM services, payment processing services and debt collection services, in support of a newly established strategic business enterprise. The role will be accountable to the company Procurement Director and will also have duties to report additional stakeholders across the business.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Finalise a number of key contracts that are presently in train for energy industry services such as contact centre capabilities, smart metering and associated services.
  • Source a range of additional customer support services, including but not limited to billing and payment services, desktop support and facilities management. Such services will vary in complexity and will require different sourcing approaches to be adopted, commensurate with cost, risk etc.
  • The emphasis is on working with the Programme Team to take a lead on procurement matters, help them understand potential solutions for these services from the supply market; and implement agreed sourcing solutions that meet specified business requirements (right service, quality, supplier time and price); underpinned by robust contracts that provide the desired business solutions.

Required Experience:
  • Significant experience (5+ years) of sourcing of a range of operational business services as described above.
  • Commensurate, very strong sourcing & negotiation skills.
  • A good working knowledge of the energy service industry.
  • Highly experienced in contracting; with a demonstrable track record of delivering successful business contracts and co-working with professional legal resources.
  • Commercially strong, with a proven ability to proactively lead and shape the procurement process. Able to operate effectively outside classic procurement approaches in a risk managed manner.
  • Strong proactive influencing skills covering both key internal and external stakeholders – sometimes at C-suite level.
  • Ability to coach and help the business develop clear requirements and solutions specifications.
  • Ability to coach key stakeholders on what effective and efficient procurement delivers and act as the SME for purchasing within the start-up business.
  • Commercially flexible and able to work across a range of different procurement categories engaging with different parts of the business.
  • Demonstrably strong team working/ collaboration skills.
  • Ability to lead high volumes of different procurement exercises some simple, some complex, to deliver against aggressive timelines.
  • Ability to be innovative in problem-solving and deliver effective business outcomes.
  • Will have and be able to provide a suite of purchasing tools (templates etc) that can be used to deliver desired purchasing outcomes
