A new and exciting opportunity has arisen within one of Sheffield's fastest growing manufacturing businesses. As the Metals Buyer you will be responsible for all aspects of the Purchasing department in the procurement of materials and sub-contractors. The appointed Buyer will provide practical expertise within the company's procurement team in order to balance stock levels, negotiate cost reductions and control the supplier base.

Client Details

The client which I'm representing specialise in providing structural steel work projects nationally, including a full installation service. Over the past decade they have seen their company almost quadruple in size, and were recently listed as one of South Yorkshire's fastest growing businesses. Due to continued growth, they are now looking to recruit a Metals Buyer who will support their procurement function, the successful candidate will ideally have a background within the steel industry.

Description



The Metals Buyer will be tasked with the management of suppliers, developing purchasing strategies as well as playing an important role in the planning, coordination and control of the manufacturing processes ensuring that products are produced efficiently, on time and on budget as well as meeting quality standards.

Primary responsibilities are as follows:

  • Contract negotiation and Supplier management.
  • Organise, plan and complete the Purchasing Departments workload effectively to meet tight deadlines.
  • Establish and implement purchasing policies, procedures and best practices.
  • Manage the supply chain to ensure timely delivery of all required materials.
  • Identify and source new suppliers and vendors.
  • Manage vendor and supplier selection process based on price, quality, support, capacity and reliability.
  • Develop, negotiate and administer purchasing agreements and contracts with suppliers in support of organisational requirements.
  • Introduce performance improvement measures for suppliers and vendors.
  • Work with relevant departments to manage inventory requirements.
  • Facilitate timely placement of purchase orders, manage and maintain required stock and safety stock levels.
  • Produce regular reports on purchase commitments, costs and delivery performance.
  • Oversee the operations and daily activities of the purchasing, goods in and dispatch department.
  • Working with management to develop and implement cost savings plans and be accountable for meeting agreed budget objectives.





Profile

The Successful Metals Buyer will ideally have some of the following key skills and qualities:

  • Previous experience in Purchasing/Materials Management within the steel industry
  • Ability to identify new potential suppliers and manage key supplier partnerships.
  • Performance management strong analytic skills
  • Build close working relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • Highly motivated, possess a high degree of enthusiasm with a team orientated work style.
    Accuracy and attention to detail, presentation and IT skills.



Desirable:
  • Professional procurement/purchasing accreditation's.
  • Degree in an Engineering or Manufacturing discipline.
  • Highly computer literate with experience of using an MRP system.
  • A background of strong engineering/manufacturing principles will support this application.
  • As the role is working within the heavy engineering industry then experience in working in a strong engineering based environment with the ability to read engineering drawings would be advantageous.
  • Ability to understand internal and external technical information, with a proven experience in the field of technically demanding products.
  • A can do attitude with the ability to ‘get stuck in’ at all levels; strategically, tactically and operationally on a day-to-day basis.
