Operations Manager

£33,423 - £36,044 dependent on relevant experience, location and size of unit (20 to 120 people), plus 10% bonus potential and competitive benefits package

Aylesbury Vale

You don’t need logistics or unionised experience to be an operations manager at Royal Mail. We’re looking for people who can coach, lead and motivate teams to perform at their very best. Our markets are changing fast, and we’re adapting to what the future will bring. If you’re an experienced manager who has the energy and resilience to drive positive change on a big scale, we want to hear from you.

About the role

When sent mail has been processed, it’s brought to one of our 1,400 local delivery offices for final sorting and distribution. Each one is led by a Delivery operations manager. Join us and you’ll make sure your unit runs as efficiently as possible, seeing that the mail is collected, sorted and delivered six days a week. Managing a team of anything from 20 to 120 people and working a rotating shift pattern, you will:

–       Support and coach your team to perform to their maximum potential

–       Ensure that your office provides excellent customer service in delivery and through service points, acting quickly to resolve complaints

–       Deliver effective resource management, aligning manpower with traffic forecasting and maximising efficiency in line with seasonal peaks

–       Maintain a positive, effective relationship with the CWU trade union within a framework of national agreements

You’ll be responsible for achieving performance across safety, customer, efficiency and financial targets. It’s a big job. But we’ll provide you with thorough training and support to ensure that you have all the skills and knowledge you need to succeed.

About you

We’re looking for hands on individuals with a passion for people. You’ll provide coaching and advice, handling challenging conversations and situations calmly and tactfully. Your background could be in any sector, including logistics, retail, hospitality or FMCG – it’s your ability to motivate, inspire and lead that we’re looking for. You’ll have an eye for detail and be confident in efficiently managing resources and budgets – all with a view to ensuring your team is performing to its very best.

About us

Five centuries in business has made Royal Mail more than a household name. We connect companies, customers and communities across the country, delivering a ‘one-price-goes-anywhere’, universal postal service to more than 29 million addresses across the UK.
