Working to get procurement to the point of proactive delivery instead of reactive, building strong internal relationships with stakeholders and firmly placing procurement on the map

Client Details

My Client is a leading Financial Services business based in the West Yorkshire area. Having grown through acquisition they are now at a point to grow more organically - key to this approach is a strong procurement team which will in time be driven from a central function based in the Yorkshire office.

  • Strategy – Direct responsibility for development and delivery of sourcing and contracting strategies across a portfolio of categories, sub-categories and suppliers which deliver best in market and innovative solutions for the business

  • Sourcing – accountable for the delivery of all sourcing activity, including RFX, RFP, supplier negotiations and contracting

  • Category Management and Compliance – To adapt and implement Category Management as an effective and efficient process, ensuring compliance with business policies, minimum standards and governance / risk mechanisms

  • Contracting – To ensure that contractual arrangements are aligned with supplier and relationship strategies to deliver maximum commercial benefit to the client whilst adequately protecting from adverse risk exposure

  • Strategy Implementation – to proactively support all commercial aspects of implementation, including on-boarding and exit of suppliers, change management requests and ongoing supplier management issues and disputes

  • Stakeholder Management – To work in a way that positively engages the support of stakeholders using problem solving and proactive communication skills

  • Business Requirements – To have a keen insight and understanding of business requirements on a 1-3 year horizon

  • Role Models – The incumbents will be expected to act as exemplars and role models, and deliver role model examples of good practice which can be shared and adopted throughout the group

  • Analysis - Perform market analysis regularly, highlighting any areas of concern or opportunity to capitalise

  • Stakeholder Engagement – Provide relevant supplier information and influencing peers to promote and implement the procurement related strategies, endorse professional procurement involvement and standard practices.

  • In all situations where suppliers provide goods and services directly to our external customers, ensure that procurement activity and supplier relationships are managed in with company policy

  • Manage risks linked to purchasing activity by supporting compliance with agreed group and local policies, legal requirements and by engendering professional ethics. Support the ongoing development of procurement and related processes to support Corporate Responsibility Strategy and help to ensure ongoing compliance

  • Provide support and guidance to those business representatives with Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) responsibilities and manage any key supplier relationships for which you are the nominated SRM, including the necessary customer interfaces involved with the supply, supervision and maintenance of goods and services

  • Demonstrable experience of procurement in Professional / FS (or fast paced env.)

  • A thorough understanding of purchasing tools and techniques

  • A demonstrable knowledge of techniques to deliver continuous cost savings and add value

  • A demonstrable knowledge of the Legal, financial, professional markets including industry trends, emerging products, & commercial models

  • A good understanding of supply chain risk and mitigation strategies including legal risk, commercial risk, Corporate Responsibility risk, fraud risk and business continuity risk.

  • Sufficient understanding of contract law to be able to review agreements

  • Understanding contract law sufficiently to be able to spot risks, gaps and opportunities and to be able to ensure supplier delivery to the required cost and quality
