Your new role

This vacancy are based in Commercial Division and will deliver a range of commercial roles that includes providing procurement and commercial support to the department’s most complex and high risk projects, enabling them to achieve the best possible commercial outcomes; developing the commercial competence of colleagues across the organisation and building and managing effective professional relationships with a range of stakeholders and customers to work collaboratively to deliver the best commercial outcomes for the organisation

Key responsibilities
  • Provide proactive commercial leadership, support, challenge and innovation to allocated projects, and deliver excellent procurement and commercial outcomes aligned to policy need across business areas.
  • Liaise with other government departments, including Crown Commercial Service (CCS) to align with and support CCS policy for government buying and support the effective utilisation of appropriate frameworks.
  • Support Team leaders and colleagues to develop strong stakeholder relationships across the policy and delivery teams, to understand their needs, and develop a holistic view of the department to help form good procurement strategies, leading to the best commercial outcomes.
  • Lead and/or support a number of project strands to improve contract management and grant administration across the organisation (e.g. contingency planning, implementation of the businesses Supplier Risk Strategy, contract/grant assurance, contract/grant manager knowledge network) – applying lessons learnt equally across both grant and contract landscapes where there are appropriate synergies.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues from within the division and operate flexibility at times of peak demand from time to time to support projects.
  • Quickly develop and manage effective working relationships at all levels, to set a clear direction, to lead and inspire others and to champion new ways of working.



Job Related Professional Skill – Commercial:
  • Proven commercial expertise which is effective in delivering initiatives, processes, new ways of working, improvements and good commercial outcomes.
  • The ability to demonstrate a sound knowledge of Public Procurement legislation and how it can be pragmatically applied to benefit policy and programme delivery, knowing when to seek legal advice.
  • A strong focus on leading delivery of successful outcomes and on identifying solutions, not just the problems, including the ability to strategically influence the requirement, through development of a thorough understanding of the requirement, the market place, and potential solutions.
  • The ability to work with programme and project managers to ensure that procurement aspects of programmes and projects are conducted in line with EU Directives, UK legislation, VfM policies and internal competition rules.



Travel between Departmental sites will be required.
