Location:  South Wales
Commutable from Barry, Aberthaw, Cardiff, Newport, Caerphilly, Penarth, Bridgend, Chepstow, Swansea, Bristol, Ross on Wye.

Our client is a major diversified industrial group specialising in the B2B sector and is undoubtedly regarded as a market leader.   This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Transport Planner.  You will report to the South West Despatch Controller and will be responsible as part of a team of Transport Planners for the receipt of orders, scheduling and planning of deliveries out of a large manufacturing site in South Wales using both in house and third party contractors. 

The successful applicant will have recent/current transport planning experience with an extensive track record in transport, logistics and distribution, preferably bulk/tanker or palletised but candidates from other transport sectors will be considered.  Candidates must have previous transport/distribution/logistics load and vehicle planning experience.  Geographical knowledge of the South West and Wales region is imperative as you will be planning multi drop deliveries.
This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate wishing to develop their professional experience in the field of transport operational management.  Applicants should be able to work independently and make day to day decisions regarding the safe and efficient operation of our clients South West and Wales transport/distribution fleet. Experience of working within a unionised environment and with third party road haulage contractors would be highly advantageous.  A CPC would be desirable however the client will support training to achieve this qualification.  IOSH training would also be highly beneficial but again the client can provide training.  Experience of SAP (or similar ERP systems) and transport planning and routing software is essential.  A confident and mature personality gained within a highly customer service driven environment with experience of regular interaction with drivers will be critical to success.


The Role:

• To liaise and coordinate on a daily basis with customers, to deliver a high level of service, working closely with drivers, third party transport contractors and operational staff.
• Order taking and bulk and palletised product delivery management to a wide range of customers within Wales and South West England on a multi drop basis.
• Efficient scheduling of own fleet vehicles, maximising driver hours’ availability, to meet agreed KPI targets, whilst maintaining legal and operational compliance.
• Effective allocation of orders to third party transport partners.
• To work effectively as part of a team including Supply Planning, Area Sales, Distribution and Logistics Management and Manufacturing.
• Ensure that delivery schedules produced meet all aspects of driver and vehicle legal compliance ensuring all Company and statutory requirements are met.
• Deliver industry leading delivery performance, ensuring continued supplies to our customer base.
• Order taking from customer and subsequent entry into order management system.
• Produce efficient delivery schedules, maximising own fleet utilisation whilst meeting set KPI targets. 
• Work with local Management to reduce costs or increase efficiency through better management of drivers and fleet.
• Ensures effective local communication with driver teams via daily debrief. - Attends regular business and employee briefings.
• Validation of deliveries within systems to ensure timely month end closing and reporting.
• To assume Despatch Controller responsibilities as and when required.

The Ideal Candidate:


The ideal applicant will be well educated with excellent written communication skills and numeracy. 
You will be an experienced transport/distribution/logistics planner utilising both in house fleet and drivers and third party road haulage contractors within a very fast paced multi drop despatch and logistics environment.  Experience of a tanker fleet would be highly advantageous but other bulk or palletised multi drop distribution environments are also of interest.
• A CPC would be desirable but our client will provide training.  IOSH Safety Training would also be highly desirable. 
• Computer literate, ideally with experience of SAP and transport routing tools.
• Possess a confident telephone manner with an outgoing personality 
• Effective decision making skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
• Be responsive to the needs of our customers, possess inter-personal skills and be able to work with minimum supervision whilst being a team player.
• SHEQ / Legal Compliance.
• Customer service awareness.
• Effective organisation, prioritisation and time management skills.
• Ability to work under pressure meeting deadlines.
• Effective communication skills are essential, including face-to-face, telephone and written. Self-motivated and ambitious and willing to drive own professional development with the support of the company.
