To assist us in achieving our goal, we are now seeking a Senior In-directs Category Manager. What the role is:

A key role in the company’s procurement team, working alongside a team of procurement specialists accountable for implementing world class procurement and related supply chain methodologies for all In-direct materials and services. To manage key procurement projects across all In-Direct categories and to interface in the development process of new In-direct business opportunities.

What you’ll be doing will include:

  • Supporting the Head of Procurement in the delivery of the overall Procurement business strategy, with direct accountability for developing and implementing the Indirect materials and services category strategies enabling Alpha LSG to benefit from economies of scales and world class procurement
  • Assume overall responsibility for purchasing in all Indirect Categories through effective strategic sourcing and category management
  • Ensure that all costs are as transparent as possible and exposed, so that decisions can be made from a position of knowledge
  • Consolidate expenditure and suppliers wherever appropriate, to maximise volumes and value whilst minimising complexity
  • Manage the impact of supply decisions on the operations, to ensure that the systems and services employed are efficient and effectively communicated
  • To enhance all procurement practices in sourcing and supplier management through the implementation of the eSourcing platforms, including but not limited to tenders, contract and supplier information, to underpin category strategies
  • Accountable for the negotiation of Indirect material and services contracts (price/terms/conditions) with suppliers with specific responsibility of key contracts and establishing collaborative opportunities with shareholders, as and where feasible, to synergise benefits and maximise sustainable value
  • Develop and manage the procurement category strategies to meet the changing needs of the business and optimise Indirect procurement costs
  • Accountable for the on-going review of supplier performance and supplier management activities for Indirect material and services vendors to optimise innovation and continuous improvement opportunities

What you’ll have will include:

  • In-directs experience across a variety of foodservice, manufacturing and food production categories
  • CIPS qualification or relevant industry experience
  • Understanding of common markets and broad general market knowledge
  • Strong background in strategic sourcing and category management
  • Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to lead key negotiations 
  • Experience in managing procurement activities across a multi-site business
  • Experience in managing complex supplier and organisational relationships 
  • Ability to build informal authority and influence key decision makers
  • Commercially aware
  • Analytical and methodical approach
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentational skills
  • Competent with eProcurement platforms and IT solutions
  • Project management skills
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, proactive and persuasive
