Your new role
The Senior Purchasing Manager is responsible for strategically managing spend and service delivery across the core Wholesale routes to market, with direct purchasing responsibility for Grocery, Ambient and Frozen Goods carried within these channels. The role will also be responsible for developing the burgeoning Supply Chain in Mainland Europe, ensuring that the Supply Chain is in place to support the business delivering against commercial, quality and service targets.

Key responsibilities
  • Responsible for delivering lowest cost price in key categories and across the Wholesale Supply Chain, taking ownership of the primary supplier relations and commercial negotiations.
  • Working with other members of the team to ensure that pricing alignment is in place across wholesalers to drive the right buying behaviour a cross the business i.e. Best cost, best into-unit price, as well as ensuring that appropriate routes to market and commercial frameworks are in place to support team initiatives.
  • Delivery of a competitive consumer offer - price, promotions and range in line with the Operating business expectations and requirements.
  • To proactively manage the key Strategic suppliers ensuring that stock availability and delivery performance levels are maintained to contractual standards and subjected to continuous improvement challenges.
  • Strong focus costs, service delivery, and continuous improvement, to eradicate areas of poor performance thus ensuring that sites receive their deliveries in full, and on time on every occasion.
  • Holding regular documented review meetings with each Strategic supplier, the agenda for which will cover costs, performance, stock management, quality control, promotions and pricing.
  • As a senior member of the Purchasing team the role will be expected to participate in developing supply chain best practice from supplier to final delivery and to participate in cross functional groups and teams as required (Operating businesses/Clients etc.).
  • The role will be expected to represent business requirements at all meetings and in all contacts with Suppliers, but is also responsible for ensuring that all sites are compliant with the agreed processes and procedures in place to ensure that the estate can be serviced efficiently and professionally.
  • It is a prerequisite of the role that the jobholder is a proactive agent for positive change in the Supply Chain and Procurement team, and that the post holder is aware of commercial and technical developments, and legislative changes that impact upon the incumbent’s areas of responsibility.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Assisting in, and leading the identification of goods required by the business, working closely with internal stakeholders
  • Researching and identifying new products and suppliers
  • Generating and assessing tenders from potential suppliers
  • Negotiating prices and agreeing contracts
  • Ensuring that suppliers deliver consistent product quality within agreed specifications
  • Keeping abreast of market trends

Operational support
  • Aligning Supply Chain priorities with those of the businesses
  • Acting as key contact within Supply Chain for Wholesale provision and delivery
  • Playing an active role as a member of the Purchasing and Supply Chain team, operating to the standards of our Charter, delivering operational performance and excellence.

  • Develop objective methods of reporting to assess and evaluate supplier performance and commercial competitiveness

Qualifications Evidence of Higher Education, preferably to degree level with an excellent command of verbal and written English. Excellent working knowledge of MS Office, including Word and Excel. Preferable industry qualifications i.e. CIPS
