Job Description

The Smiths Group is seeking a highly experienced individual to join the organization and lead the Supply Chain capability development & application projects and coordinate the development, deployment and delivery of the Group’s shared operating model – the Smiths Excellence System.

Duties and Responsibilities

Lead SC capability development activities & application projects:

  • Establish SES SC framework (SC Handbook, standards, self-diagnostic, CI plan generation, core procedures).
  • Coordinate people development activities (Organisational design, talent & career management, professional development & education).
  • Implement SC performance measurement (SC metrics, data management, business intelligence).
  • Accelerate technology exploitation (SC IT roadmap & IT project implementation).
  • Lead a programme of Group-wide SC application projects (Operational planning, lead-time reduction, inventory optimisation, logistics cost reduction).

Coordinate development, deployment & delivery of the SES programme:

  • Coordinate establishment of the SES programme, to include development and deployment of the SES operating model within Smiths.
  • Establish programme plans, resource plans & generate status reports as required.
  • Identity & assess SES programme risks and develop effective risk mitigation strategies.
  • Produce SES communication outputs to update Smiths on SES progress and achievements.
  • Lead delivery of a programme of Group-wide continuous improvement projects.

Develop and execute effective programme and project plans to enable achievement of assigned objectives.

Evaluate complex problems and formulate effective solutions within SES and SC domains.

Engage with ExCo, Group & Divisional stakeholders to develop consensus and alignment between the SES Programme and Divisions.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor Degree in Materials, Supply Chain Management or Business Management with an emphasis on Supply Chain (ideally Master’s Degree).
  • Extensive experience in Supply Chain Management and Operational Planning in engineering & production environments.
  • Previous relevant Project / Programme Management experience (an asset – PMP / PRINCE2).
  • Previous experience in a large multi-national matrix organisation, with practical knowledge of dealing with different cultures and regions.
  • Ability to manage indirect resources in a matrix environment with changing priorities.
  • Ability to engage with people at all levels within the organisation - from shop floor to executive committee.
  • Experience of Change Management implementation.
  • Passionate about Continuous Improvement / Operational Excellence (ideally Lean experience).
  • Flexible and willing to travel globally (up to 50%) in support of role fulfilment.
  • Strong written, communication & interpersonal skills; able to influence the actions & decisions of others.
  • Excellent stakeholder management & presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving ability.
