Client Details

Our client is a leading manufacturing organisation based in Bedford



  • Leading the Purchasing and logistics teams: Accountable for all procurement activities, resources and supplier engagements required to deliver cost effective and quality supply chain solutions.

  • Global and UK sourcing of bespoke steel and other metal manufactured components, assemblies, electrical components and assemblies. A mixture of bespoke and catalogue parts in a small batch environment.

  • Proactive member of the Operations team working with both operational and engineering leads to deliver continuous business performance improvement.

  • Critical involvement in new product development, providing advice and guidance to the engineering team on costs and supply chain.

  • Setting, developing and managing KPI's including OTIF, Savings, Value engineering.

  • Developing and leading a skilled procurement team capable of managing all commercial supply contracts applying continuous improvement principles to increase and optimise effectiveness and a proactive approach to the business as a whole.

  • Understand and foster an understanding of full business requirements covering financial, budgetary, commercial and technical requirements.

  • Developing a procurement framework across both direct and indirect spend

  • Initiating improvement projects with procurement and Supply chain

  • Work with engineering to foster and develop the strategy of standard configurable machine platforms. Identifying opportunities for modular design. VA/VE and a professional approach to NPD.

  • Ability to drive and manage value from OEM relationships and low leverage environments

  • To foster and mentor the use of ERP / MRP systems to manage the supply chain and project costs. Improving our capability and records for project management.

  • Analysing and improving the business spend of approximately £20m per annum


  • Demonstrated procurement, sourcing and supply chain management in a manufacturing background

  • Knowledge of relevant commodities and markets

  • Will have developed and managed domestic and international supply chains

  • Professional qualifications; CIPS or equivalent

  • Preferably Degree educated

  • Managed a similar size of spend across direct and indirect commodities

  • Demonstrable evidence of effecting supplier cost saving, delivery and quality performance.

  • Have experience and be the champion of ERP / MRP usage within the procurement / supply chain function .

  • A strong understanding of cost benefit analysis and value engineering.

  • Proven with a high mix, high value engineering led environment

  • Highly developed negotiation skills

  • Ability to influence improvement in under-performing suppliers

  • Develop and drive a procurement strategy through a structured process

  • Development and management of commercial contracts including SLA’s

  • Able to evaluate and develop a relevant, bespoke approach

  • Able to demonstrate effecting change within an organisation / department and the realising the benefits

  • Strong people management skills and good business stakeholder management

  • Develop and build a purchasing team to become trusted advisers and to deliver beyond expectation.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues and suppliers.

  • Problem Solving: Risk controller and resolver for supply chain management
