TRANSPORT GENERAL MANAGER

Constantine is the largest Fine Art Logistic Company in Europe operating for the last 130 years. We work with the majors Museums, Galleries, Institutions and Collectors in the country, offering a first-class service across the globe. Our transport fleet is growing and migrating to a multi-site operation so we are looking for an experienced Transport GM able to support our expansion.

Who we are looking for:

• Proven ability to manage operations across multiple sites
• Good working knowledge of transport IT systems
• Excellent interpersonal skills applied in a commercial environment
• International CPC holder with 5+ years’ experience in a similar role

The Main Challenges:

• Work with management to migrate the business to a multi-sites operation
• Assist in the development of the company’s transport IT operating systems  
• Develop relationships with key agents regarding consolidations and backloads
• Be a key conduit for communication between the commercial and transport teams resolving issues and improving processes
• Together with HR and technical manager identify skill shortages and put in place training, succession planning and recruitment

FULL JOB DESCRIPTION

Operational

• Manage a team of schedulers and driver technicians across a multisite basis
• Manage the daily scheduling of work ensuring optimum utilisation of vehicles and drivers technicians (currently 20-25 vehicles and 40 driver technician)
• Maintain a key information file/folder - company names, contacts, physical constraints, time constraints, local traffic constraints etc.
• Work with commercial team and provide flexibility for last minute requests
• Forward plan schedule and resources at least 1 month in advance working closely with commercial teams to maximise consolidations and backloads
• Work with all teams to bring more elements of the transport planning process onto the company’s IT operating system

Commercial

• Work within pre-determined budgets
• Report on the fleet conditions, costings, expenditure, systems and staffing
• Responsible for reducing operational costs
• Prepare CAPEX proposals for rolling fleet renewal and refurbishment
Staffing
• Maintain optimum balance of employed vs contractors
• Build and maintain relationships with key contractors
• Interview prospective operational staff
• Ensure flexibility from all team members
• Manage absence and annual leave of all team members
• Conduct disciplinary investigations
• Ensure all team members comply with all legal and regulatory requirements
• Manage time sheets against tachometer/tracker and highlight concerns

Regulatory

• Comply with all operator licence requirements
• Ensure that the business remains fully compliant to DVSA (VOSA) guidelines.
• Comply with all Health & Safety requirements
• Ensure all vehicles/trailers are maintained as per the service planner and encourage preventative maintenance
• Ensure all records are kept, and completed fully as per internal and external requirements
• Accident/incident report and insurance liaison
