Currently working with a specialised distributor who are looking for an experience transport manager to join their flagship operation on days to manage their drivers and transport admin team.

Description

  • Ensuring that all vehicles are presented for Service and MOT’s in line with the Operator Licence.
  • Ensuring that all vehicle defects are actioned and signed off before the vehicle goes back on the road.
  • Managing driver overtime in line with agreed budget.
  • Check all payroll figures before sending to Payroll in a timely manner each month.
  • Completing all KPI’s and presenting them in a timely manner.
  • Chairing monthly drivers meetings
  • Routes to be monitored regularly to maximise capacity and minimise cost.
  • Manage cost control in line with monthly P&L
  • Carry out Investigations and Disciplinary meetings in line with the company HR policy and procedures.
  • Manage direct reports such as Transport Controller and Administrators as well as drivers.
  • Manage and record all fuel usage and reduce where possible.
  • Be responsible for recruitment from interview through to inductions which will be carried out in line with the company procedures.
  • Manage all driver Tachograph infringements and working time directive in line with the sites operator licence
  • Work with operations team to manage any waste off site with the use of internal and external trunking.
  • Manage all legal documentation in line with the operator’s licence and EU legislation.
  • Carry out regular one to one meeting with the drivers and performance management meetings.
  • Carry out daily team briefings with Transport and Plant operations to understand daily challenges.
  • Work alongside the plant manager to ensure that all lines of communication are covered.
  • Build team spirt and relations from having a can do attitude and having a hands on approach to the job.
  • Works alongside commercial team to ensure all lines of communication are covered and that any issues are logged and reported back to the customers.
  • Implement and manage all training for direct reports and record and update as necessary.
  • Follow and obey all Health & Safety policies and procedures at all times.
  • Work closely with all suppliers and maintain a good working relationship.
  • Source new suppliers where and when needed to manage a good turnaround of products and value for money.
  • To be the first point of contact for all drivers and other direct reports.
  • To cover out of hours calls from drivers and customers.
  • To develop your team of drivers and operational reports with continued managing, monitoring and identifying individual training needs.
  • Continue to help improve the operational by strategic thinking and planning.
  • Develop relationships with existing and new customers by monitoring expectations and attending meetings with commercial team members.
  • Identify operational issues and act accordingly to overcome these.
  • Identify Opportunities and act accordingly to secure them









Profile

  • Transport Management experience of at least 3 years managing a large team of drivers and running a compliant operation.



  • Able to present, lead and inspire without having direct management responsibility.



  • Strong commercial understanding



  • Analytical with an ability to analyse complex data by using relevant IT tools



  • Excellent verbal and written skills



  • Hold CPC



  • Ability to persuade and influence people at all levels and develop good working relationships that promote team working.



  • Strategic thinker with good business acumen and the ability to think from a customer's perspective.



  • Good attention to detail whilst retaining the ability to see the bigger picture.



  • IT literate (Microsoft Office)





  • Ability to motivate people with a coaching style approach.
