A market leading wholesaler is looking for a transport manager to join its Birmingham operation.

A market leading wholesaler is looking for a transport manager to join its Birmingham operation.

Transport Manager Responsibilites include:

  • To ensure effective, efficient operation of all transport related tasks, ensuring compliance with VOSA, Ministry of Transport, & Traffic Commissioner.
  • Ensure that the company stays up to date with any law changes relevant to your part of the business.
  • Encourage staff to conform to the company’s policies and procedures relating to transport, referring to the Staff & Driver Handbook, relevant Procedure Logs and related documentation.
  • Data entry (Fleet System & various other related systems)
  • Processing insurance claims
  • Organising servicing / maintenance
  • Keeping up to date with changes in transport law
  • Monitor vehicle tracking activities & report
  • Arrange driver assessments annually & record
  • Annual driving licence checks taking place (outsourced)
  • Attending relevant transport seminars & events
  • To oversee the complete transport / logistic operation to plan the workload on a daily basis.
  • To ensure all defected vehicles are taken off road until repaired & show as VOR in Fleetcheck
  • Run schedules and drop orders are regularly reviewed to ensure maximum efficiency is achieved whilst service levels and van fill rates are improved or maintained.
  • To ensure all departments are kept informed of any events that impact them.
  • General HR responsibilities including return to work, disciplinary's up to dismissal etc.

The successful candidate will have the following attributes:
  • NVQ Traffic Office Level II Transport Management CPC
  • Must have excellent organisational skills
  • Calm under pressure
  • Strong decision maker
  • Approachable – able to deal with staff issue’s or concerns fairly but firmly
  • Able to delegate tasks / jobs successfully & back check
  • Good communicator
  • Previous experience as a transport manager
