A strong management background in a fast-paced Transport environment is needed for this key role in Glasgow with a leading 3PL providing a B2B and B2C delivery service.

This is a dynamic multi-shift, unionised operation that services an online retailer in addition to acting as a hub / cross dock facility for the receipt, sortation and outbound loading of goods destined for several satellite delivery sites. We seek an accomplished operator with a thorough understanding of modern transport systems and strong leadership qualities, to ensure that the day-to-day transport activities of the site are effectively and efficiently managed within budget. Additionally, the whole organisation is undergoing major change initiatives with an emphasis at this site on increasing the depot’s capability through the updating of processes and procedures in addition to implementing a structured people development plan. The nature of the role therefore, necessitates the need for an individual with strong change management experience along with the credibility and gravitas necessary to engage with a team of 70 Drivers and the ancillary staff needed to support the transport operation. By nature, you will be committed to delivering high levels of customer satisfaction, will have the capacity to identify areas for improved productivity and will be an advocate of Continuous Improvement initiatives. Your strategic foresight will enable you to continually review and plan operational and resource capabilities to support seasonal trends and future growth. Likewise, your excellent commercial acumen and proactive approach to cost control and budgetary management will enable you to improve the financial efficiencies of the Transport function.

It goes without saying that that you will be an inspirational leader with a broad experience of managing large teams within a unionised environment and will have the capacity to be instrumental in creating a highly productive, customer centric work ethos within your delivery team. Moreover, you will have proven experience of overcoming the cultural challenges of leading and motivating a team that has lacked leadership and direction and guiding them through necessary changes to operational practices and system upgrades. There is a lot to be done and the candidate we seek will need all the qualities and experience we have mention but most importantly won’t be frightened to challenge the status quo or ruffle feathers to make the necessary improvements. A National CPC in Transport Management is a given along with excellent IT skills and a working knowledge of Transport Planning software and Telematics systems. A good working knowledge of Paragon would be advantageous.
