Your role as Transport Planner is to be responsible for the daily planning of Company and/or third party resources. You will effectively manage vehicle utilisation and ensuring drivers are given clear and precise instructions.

You will also ensuring that all service levels are met cost effectively and within the constraints of drivers hours and H & S regulations.

You will be joining a leading Supply Chain and Logistics specialist who are at the forefront of their specialist sector. With many years of experience providing effective solutions for their range of clients.

Description

The role as Transport Planner is for a 6 months contract. Your role will include the following responsibilities:
  • Ensuring that all elements of the job are effectively communicated to drivers and sub-contractors.
  • To plan the effective utilisation of drivers, vehicles, sub-contractors and agencies ensuring that all Company sites are fully considered when doing so.
  • Ensure that all drivers are working within a safe environment and follow driver hours regulations.
  • Liaising with retail department teams to optimise fleet/driver utilisation, identifying and resolving problems affecting delivery on time.
  • Close liaison with other operators and team leaders to discuss efficiency's and agreed operational practices.
  • To assist in the control of equipment, ensuring that customer requirements are met and recorded.
  • Effectively manage the balance between own fleet and sub contract requirements, identifying and suggesting any areas for improvement
  • Conducting investigations into accidents or issues of driver performance / conduct and raising with Supervisors and HR, where applicable, to ensure that they are dealt with efficiently and consistently.
  • Working alongside fleet to ensure timely return of vehicles
  • Working with Compliance to ensure trucks are legal and information is downloaded in a timely manner
  • Working alongside the Supervisors and Managers to ensure that costs are managed in accordance with the KPI’s.
  • To undertake additional tasks/duties as may be required by Management from time to time.

Profile

To be successful with your application for this role you must be Immediately Available to start and have the experience:
  • Experience of managing own workload within a pressurised environment
  • Experience of working within a distribution / transport environment
  • A sound understanding of vehicle planning within a transport environment or similar
  • Sound geographical knowledge
  • Basic understanding of driver’s hours regulations/Tachograph law
  • Basic fridge operation knowledge – Start / Stop / change temperatures / clear faults
  • Able to work to challenging deadlines in a pressurised environment
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Adaptable and flexible in approach to work
  • Written and verbal communication
  • Initiative and the ability to work unsupervised
  • Proficient in Word and Excel
  • Thoroughness/attention to detail
  • Ability to solve problems under pressure
  • Confidence and a positive attitude towards other team members
