Buyer (Indirect Materials and Services)

Working exclusively with Michael Page, our client are a leading global FMCG business.

This is a fantastic opportunity to develop an exciting career within Procurement. It's a fast paced role where you will be required to demonstrate negotiation skills, decision making skills and an understanding of the value of proactive customer and supplier service.


As a Buyer (Indirect Materials and Services) you will be responsible for managing the procurement process of all Indirect Materials and Services for the UK, based in the companies Kent site. There are 4 main concentration areas to this exciting role:

Coordinate global, regional and local procurement initiatives for Indirect Materials and Services

  • Define local initiatives and support the implementation of global and regional strategies
  • Support tactical plans to source Indirect Materials and Services in line with the business plan

Portfolio Management

  • Negotiate contracts including leading RFXs
  • Identify opportunities for optimisation
  • Own the supplier relationships and lead on any conflict resolution

Stakeholder relationship

  • Communicate any market conditions which may affect the business to key internal stakeholders and Global/Regional Category Managers
  • Identify demand changes and influence business stakeholders to drive cost improvements

Cost optimisation

  • Prepare strategy plans and forecasts in line with business budgets
  • Develop and implement cost reduction projects
  • Support the Operations Team in any cost reduction programmes


The Buyer (Indirect Materials and Services) will be able to demonstrate:

  • Ability to work within own autonomy
  • Relevant Indirect Procurement experience
  • Strong technical background
  • Excellent negotiation and influencing skills
  • Project management skills and good understanding of procurement process
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with people across different levels and areas of the business
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office and ideally SAP
