Distribution Manager

My client is a leading e-fulfilment logistics business based in the heart of Worcestershire.

They are looking for a Distribution Manager to manage all areas of their transport operation including day to day ops, planning, projects, systems and compliance.


Reporting to the General Manager, the Distribution Manager will be responsible for the following:

  • A key part of the senior logistics team, working with them to drive the transport operation forward.
  • Responsible for the strategic planning of vehicles, ensuring that synergies, efficiencies, savings and improvements are identified and acted upon.

  • Ensuring that the national transport activities are managed effectively, that they meet the customer service level criteria at all time whilst operating within agreed financial parameters.

  • Providing close management of all costs and KPIs of the transport operation, identifying variances and taking appropriate corrective action.

  • Adopting a proactive approach to the role, ensuring ongoing excellence in day-to-day operations.

  • Liaising with customer representatives at a high level, ensuring productive relationships with the client, as well as colleagues and external suppliers and contacts.

  • Responsible for ensuring that all operations consistently meet legal requirements in respect of both transport, employment and Health and Safety legislation, constantly striving to improve Health and Safety within the operations.


The successful Distribution Manager will have the following experience:

  • Extensive transport management experience at a high level in a service driven 3PL or Retail operation
  • Be able to demonstrate an ability to manage supervisors and drivers
  • Highly developed people management skills, able to demonstrate skills in performance management and motivation of staff.
  • A serious team player with the ability to work successfully in a variety of teams and with a variety of individuals.
  • Must have the enthusiasm and commitment necessary to meet the considerable challenge of operating in a country-wide environment, requiring extensive travel.
  • Able to establish and maintain good communications with customer representatives at all levels colleagues and external contacts.
  • Must be financially aware and have experience of budgetary control procedures.
  • Be able to demonstrate high level employee relations experience in a unionised environment.
  • Must hold a CPC.

Job Offer

This role is a 6-9 month fixed term contract with a strong possibility of going permanent (subject to probation and performance).

The salary on offer is £40,000 - £43,000.
