About Our Client

My client is a Yorkshire based E-commerce business which has experienced exceptional growth since inception 4 years ago due to its innovative and forward thinking approach. It has been nationally recognised in leading publications for the quality of its lifestyle product and customer service. It is now seeking a Head of Operations to develop the next stage of its business model by creating an in-house distribution function.

Job Description

The Head of Operations will;

Manage the current 3PL provider by setting and adhering to performance KPIs and monitoring operating costs.

Ensuring internal and external service levels are maintained throughout the transitional period.

Manage the transition to the new In-house Distribution Centre by overseeing the following:

  • Involvement in locating the new premises
  • Offering expert opinion around the size of the new distribution centre
  • Deciding on a Warehouse Management System including research, testing, implementation and go live
  • Responsible for the recruitment of new operational team and subsequent training
  • Overseeing the stock transition within the business
  • Developing and implementing a functional warehouse layout
  • Maintaining carrier relations with the business's outsourced transport providers and continuously reviewing cost adherence and service levels
     

Manage the distribution operation once opened (circa. August 2021) by:

  • Operating a stringent Health & Safety policy on site
  • Creating and maintaining an inclusive dashboard of operational KPIs
  • Overseeing processes & controls for the distribution function
  • Being a key contributor to current and future business strategy
  • Driving cost improvements in all aspects of the distribution model
  • Developing the people hired into the new structure
  • Liaising with internal departments incl. Finance, Marketing and Customer Service
  • Managing the supply chain function so that appropriate levels of stock are purchased thus avoiding under/overstock scenarios
  • Championing innovation and adaptability
  • Putting the customer at the forefront of the daily operation
  • Leading continuous improvement initiatives
  • Control discipline, attendance and performance levels in line with company policy
     

The Successful Applicant

Our ideal candidate will

  • Have a minimum of 5 years experience from a Logistics Distribution and Supply Chain background - preferably within an E-Commerce, Retail or B2C environment
  • Demonstrable experience of successful change management; experience of a start up operation or site relocations is advantageous.
  • Be experienced in sourcing, overseeing, testing and implementing new WMS systems
  • Have a proven track record in hiring and training individuals into becoming successful teams
  • Be confident in negotiating with external business providers incl. parcel couriers
  • Have held significant budgetary responsibility
  • Be comfortable with stock replenishment and distribution
  • Excellent written, numerical and communication skills
  • Ability to effectively use MS Office - Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • You will be self-motivated, innovative and keen to think outside the box to drive the business forward
  • Be flexible throughout W. Yorkshire and surrounding areas
