Your new company
You will be working for and taking part in an internationally renowned event The Birmingham Organising Committee for the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Based in Birmingham City Centre they are looking for a Head of Procurement to take over from the current interim, create a strategy, evaluate the team around them and hit the ground running. You will be joining at a time to put in place a strategy from scratch and help in the development of the procurement team via assessing their current skill set and workforce vs the requirements at hand. You will be given the rein to recruit additional staff for the team if need be and to structure it as you see fit to ensure that the projects are successfully completed to strict deadlines. Alongside this it is an extremely interesting time to join with a huge number of really interesting projects in the pipeline at the moment that are essential to the efficient completion of the games.
Your new role
This is a fantastic opportunity and not one that comes around often. You will be tasked with creating a new strategy, defining and implementing policies and providing a high level of service and advice to the procurement team and senior internal stakeholders. You will provide full operational and financial accountability for Procurement and Contract Management. You will be reporting into and working very closely with the CFO who is also based in Birmingham to create a strategy and plan for procurement. Because of the nature of some of the projects that the procurement team is currently working on and procuring you may need to get involved with tendering and running OJEU level procurements to help the team in busy periods of time due to critical deadlines.
What you'll need to succeed
You will have a strong background in managing procurement teams at a senior operational level but still have the knowledge and ability to roll your sleeves up and get involved in tendering and running OJEU procurements. You will have a strong background in public sector procurement, a mix of public and private will also be considered. You will be someone that embraces working as a leader and not a boss, you will have be able to create a true sense of teamwork and instil this into the procurement department. Someone with experience in a procuring for a similar type of large scale sporting event or events management would be very favourable.
What you'll get in return
You will be paid between £70,000 - £80,000 depending on experience with a potential push on this for a candidate with the perfect experience and background.
