Pick Team Manager

I've just taken an exciting brief for a Pick Team Manager to join one of the UK's market leaders in the retail sector, based in Leeds.

Over the past few years, the company has gone from strength to strength and has recently moved all the logistics works in house after previously using a third party logistics company.


On a daily basis, a Pick Team Manager will be responsible for:

  • Manage the picking of flat garments for onward despatch to Arcadia Stores, Digital and International areas
  • Monitor team performance in order to achieve productivity and cost targets i.e. productivity, accuracy, and controllable absence
  • Ensure department capability and productivity are aligned to achieve department targets
  • Understand departmental financial targets and their impact on operational performance i.e. CPU
  • Escalation of system issues using the service desk
  • Use dashboards relevant to your area to provide regular updates
  • Ensure all faulty equipment is logged with systems
  • Develop your team to ensure they are all able to work in other areas and take responsibility
  • Ensure you update the management team with any issues/impacts that may affect them
  • Responsible for auditing direct reports ability to manage standards
  • Ensure that product is picked and processed in line with department standards
  • Monitor and regularly review KPIs, proactively looking for continuous improvement and cost savings to benefit the DC
  • Ensure all pick is completed within the planned time scales to achieve the trunk/loading schedule
  • Pickers to confirm when a location is empty
  • Delegate pickers to count stock in location when a nil is identified
  • Investigate all International and Digital nils
  • Bulk pick International stock and send to secure area to be sorted
  • Pickers to pick multiple stores together
  • All processes followed as detailed in the new SOPs
  • Manage alerts on Manhattan to avoid them being escalated to the next level
  • Manage DC processes in line with AEO
  • Report any wrong stock/barcode issues to Stock and Inventory Admin/Team Manager


The succesful Pick Team Manager will ideally have the following skills & qualities:

  • A proven record in supervising a team
  • Knowledge of KPIs and their application
  • Ability to follow work procedures and safety rules
  • PC literate
  • Able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the business
  • Excellent organisation
  • Able to work on own initiative with minimum supervision
  • Able to manage and work to tight deadlines
  • Display a positive attitude and conduct themselves as a role model
  • Able to develop and motivate others
  • Team player
  • Pro-active and forward thinking approach
  • Able to recognise priorities within a fast paced environment
  • Excellent communication at all levels
