Transport Manager

The client which I'm representing are a market leading wholesaler, distributor and retailer who specialise in providing high quality products, as well as an efficient service, to a number of businesses across the UK. They're now working on bringing in an experienced Transport professional, as they look to strengthen their management team, at the site in Halifax.


As the Transport Manager you will be responsible for the following:

  • Ensure all Transport and Administration Staff, comply with all aspects of Legal and Company defined legislation's and policies.
  • Support the Group Fleet Manager with the Legal compliance regarding Tachograph and Vehicle maintenance across the fleet.

  • Delivery of routine KPI targets.

  • Ensure focus on customer service targets at all times.

  • Provide a high level of customer service to both internal and external customers providing prompt, accurate and appropriate information.

  • Ensure relevant policies and procedures are followed to enable compliance with all laws and regulations applicable to the aspects of responsibility under the control of this role.

  • Undertake ongoing reviews of Transport Department to ensure achievement of the company's pre-determined performance targets.

  • Regularly review all 'day-to-day' working practices and procedures within the Transport Department with a view to improving performance levels, efficiency and profitability.

  • To hold regular team briefings to keep everyone informed on performance and communicate important information and changes.

  • To hold review / appraisal meetings with team members as necessary.

  • Ensure that all team members understand and adhere to the company policies and procedures.

  • Ensure that all team members have the relevant skills and knowledge in order to carry out their duties.


The successful candidate for the Transport Manager role will ideally have the following key skills and qualities:

  • CPC qualified
  • Experience in a logistical environment
  • Experience in a transport/fleet management role
  • Proven experience of team management and development
  • Demonstrable leadership skills
  • Experience of Health & Safety management in a similar environment
  • A strong understanding of workplace Health & Safety
  • Knowledgeable in all aspects of transport management including 'o' licence and tachograph requirements
  • Good staffing levels/planning skills
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Can demonstrate an understanding of HR best practice
  • Good Microsoft Office application skills
  • Knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems
  • Fork lift licence, counterbalance or reach truck

Job Offer

£30,000 - £33,000 + Bonus
