Transport Planner / Manager

Your new company
I have an exciting position within one of the leading suppliers in specialised construction materials in the UK / EU. You will be working with the Hub Manager to take the role forward and grow with the organisation.

Your new role
The main purpose of this role is to manage and efficiently schedule a distribution fleet from a regional hub and associated sub-hubs across a regional network whilst ensuring efficient usage, co-ordination and maintenance of all the fleet assets.

You will also oversee all matters related to the drivers, and will manage the fleet movements using the Transport Planning Tools used by the company.

You will ensure that an excellent distribution service is provided to the customers, with the highest level of customer care, efficiency, safety and legal compliance

This role is Monday to Friday with alternating Saturdays (08:00 - 12:00) with reduced hours during the week for that week.

What you'll need to succeed
Key experience would be in scheduling, planning and a working exposure to logistics / fleet management.

You will have the following key areas of responsibility.

  • People management of Drivers, ensuring that development and training plans are in place
  • Ensure the fleet is managed within operators' licence regulations and all vehicles are run in line with current road transport regulations including service inspections, MOT's and day to day issues that may arise
  • Ensure any defects are dealt with immediately and communicated and recorded in the appropriate way
  • Daily planning to ensure movements are planned in advance and in time for spoke depots to pick the loads ready to load
  • Generate an efficient daily delivery plan for each driver with expected routes and schedules to follow
  • Ensure that all transport costs are within budget by continually reviewing cost savings and ways of improving efficiencies in the transport system
  • Provide feedback and reports with relevant and agreed KPIs
  • Provide high level of customer service ensuring deliveries and targets are met
  • Daily/weekly checks with drivers
  • Weekly operations meetings
  • Develop contacts for replacement drivers/hire drivers
  • Co-ordination with Branch Managers/Directors to ensure successful delivery of transport plans
